In Memory of Rev. Dr. Joseph Echols Lowery

In Memory of Rev. Dr. Joseph Echols Lowery

From the Desk of Virginia W. Harris, MPA, CIA, CGFM – National President

National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc.

Dear Coalition Sisters,

It is with heavy hearts that NCBW’s National Officers, Board of Directors, and its 3,500 members throughout the United States, mourn the passing of Rev. Dr. Joseph Echols Lowery.

Known as the “Dean” of the Civil Rights Movement, Dr. Lowery was part of a pivotal moment in US history – from early civil rights struggles to the inauguration of the country’s 1st black president. Even in his 90s, Dr. Lowery’s fervor never dimmed. He was a civil rights legend and gentle giant among leaders.

As the long time President of the Southern Christian Leadership Council, Dr. Lowery was always a huge supporter of NCBW and our various programs and initiatives. He will be deeply missed.

The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. offer Dr. Lowery’s family our sincerest condolences. Rest in Peace.

Respectfully,
Virginia W.Harris, National President
