A CALL TO ACTION: NATIONAL VOTER REGISTRATION DAY
Reclaim Our Voice with Our Vote
Many thanks to the chapters who submitted Voter Mobilization Toolkits. We received some outstanding toolkits that will become living documents of reference.
With less than 70 days until Election Day, it is time to put our feet on the gas to ensure that our communities are registered and ready to vote in the midterm elections. We need each chapter to join us!
National Voter Registration Day is September 20, 2022. Factions of state and federal lawmakers, working in concert with shady political operatives and violent extremists, are dangerously close to dismantling American democracy and establishing autocratic rule.
The National Urban League’s 2022 State of Black America® report, “Under Siege: The Plot to Destroy Democracy,” outlines the conspiracy and the urgent case for a national mobilization to protect and defend our most sacred constitutional right.
What is happening? Voter suppression tactics such as voter caging and voter purging. Voter caging is the practice of sending mail to registered voters and challenging their eligibility to vote if the mail is returned as undeliverable. Voter purging is the practice of removing names from the voter rolls, or the list of registered voters.
Why voter suppression? A total of 469 seats in the U.S. Congress (34 Senate seats and all 435 House seats) are up for election on November 8, 2022. The seats of five of the six non-voting members of the U.S. House are up for election as well.
NCBW’s Call to Action:
NCBW rebukes all voter suppression, voter caging, and voter purging actions that impact our constitutional right to vote.
Each NCBW Chapter Members shall contact at least 500 constituents by September 20, 2022, via text, phone, postcard, face-to-face or email and educate them on the importance of voting in the upcoming elections. Remind voters to check their registration status and consider early voting.
