Today, with heavy hearts, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. (NCBW) honors the life and mourns the passing of Jesse Louis Jackson, a giant in our history, a servant leader, and a relentless advocate for justice, equality, and human dignity. His voice, vision, and faith shaped generations and helped move this nation closer to its promise.
As a civil rights leader who marched alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Reverend Jackson dedicated his life to expanding opportunity, demanding equity, and reminding this nation that justice requires courage, action, and faith. He believed deeply in the power of community and in the leadership of Black women.
In October 2019, he showed us exactly who he was. When Reverend Jackson heard we were holding our national biennial conference in Atlanta at the Hyatt Regency Hotel (Peachtree Street), he felt it was his duty to stop by. No announcement. No expectation. Reverend Jackson simply walked into a packed room of NCBW members and dignitaries from across the United States to show respect and to share wisdom shaped by a lifetime of struggle and service. The response was immediate, there was a rousing applause for a man whose presence alone carried history, humility, and
hope.
That moment stays with our members because it reflected who Reverend Jackson truly was: always present, always purposeful, always lifting others.
As National President of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., I affirm our commitment to carry his legacy forward, through advocacy, leadership, and service, and to “keep hope alive”, as we work toward a future where justice is no longer just promised but truly delivered.
Respectfully,
Virginia W. Harris
National President
