NCBW Joins League of Women Voters for National Voting Rights Day of Action

Affiliates nationwide will mobilize voters ahead of the 2026 midterm elections
Atlanta, Georgia, August 12, 2026 – The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. (NCBW) will join the League of Women Voters of the United States and other national partners for the Unite & Rise for Voting Rights Day of Action on Saturday, August 8, 2026.
NCBW affiliates will participate in events nationwide to mobilize voters, promote civic engagement and affirm that voters, not politicians, should determine the future of American democracy. The Day of Action will unite state and local Leagues, community organizations, voting rights advocates and grassroots leaders ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
For NCBW, protecting voting rights is essential to advancing the social, economic, political and educational interests of Black women and girls. Elected leaders make decisions affecting education, healthcare, economic opportunity, public safety and the well-being of Black women, their families and their communities.
“The right to vote is the foundation of every freedom and opportunity we seek to protect,” said Virginia W. Harris, National President of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. “Our partnership with the League of Women Voters brings together two powerful, women led organizations with trusted voices across America. Together, we are mobilizing voters and ensuring that Black women and the communities we serve have a meaningful voice in the decisions that affect their lives.”
The Day of Action is a major milestone in the League’s Unite and Rise 8.5 initiative, which seeks to engage and mobilize 8.5 million voters by November 2026. NCBW’s national network of affiliates and trusted community relationships will help expand the initiative’s
reach and encourage year round civic participation.
The mobilization begins with a virtual National Pep Rally at 3 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, August 6, featuring League leaders, voting rights advocates, entertainers and grassroots organizers. On August 8, hundreds of local events and five anchor events in cities connected to the history of the Voting Rights Act will highlight the continuing effort to protect the freedom to vote.
NCBW encourages its members, affiliates, partners and supporters to participate, help voters prepare for the 2026 midterm elections
and raise awareness about the importance of protecting voting rights.
